  • The National Park Service – I Was Flying

    Catalog number: LTD007
    Release date: October 29, 2013
    Format: Cassette
    Edition size: 50

Cleveland, OH-based living room tinkerer The National Park Service has been quietly releasing great music since 2011 at a pace that’s impressive to say the least (last I checked there were 15 or so releases on his Bandcamp page), but apart from last year’s collaborative and split releases with Squanto, I Was Flying is his first album to be given the proper physical release it deserves. It’s just in time, too – I Was Flying is perfect autumn music, full of warm guitar loops that shift and settle like leaves making their way towards the ground. Put it in your walkman and take it for a walk through the park with a cup of coffee.

    Recorded May-August 2013 by NPS

  • Ligaments / Squanto

    Catalog number: LTD008
    Release date: February 15, 2014
    Format: Cassette
    Edition size: 50

LTD008 begins with Shikohin & Forgetting by Ligaments, a half-hour suite comprising all new material. Ligaments has been earning a name for himself lately both as a producer and DJ with his divingstation.fm crew, and this wildly colorful side is a perfect showcase of what a restlessly creative mind he’s working with, whether it’s making something to get up and dance to, something calming, or something that brings you across the space in between and pulls the two closer in the process.

Opposite S&F is Live in Syracuse by Squanto, an extended drone track recorded in 2011 during a late night bus ride. Glassy waves slide in and out of each other while fires build underneath against a pitch black background. The two sides complement each other just right – Shikohin & Forgetting will rev up your imagination, and Live Outside Syracuse will calm the rest of you down so it can take you where it wants to go.

  • German Error Message / Lung cycles

    Catalog number: LTD010
    Release date: November 25, 2014
    Format: Cassette
    Edition size: 50

Side A of LTD010 welcomes German Error Message, whose music has soundtracked many a cold night here at LTD Headquarters, to the Lily Tapes & Discs family. Arriving just ahead of their forthcoming full-length album Haunts, out later this year, these songs exemplify the densely-layered and blanket-thick bedroom folk that multi-instrumentalist Paul Kintzing has been slowly perfecting for years now. On side B we meet Lung Cycles, who has taken similar forms and unraveled them to their explosive, tape-saturated cores. Bear with us as we stumble through the snow, wondering about who lives behind all the windows on the way to our own. Keep these songs close to you this winter and they’ll keep you warm.

  • The National Park Service / Lung cycles

    Catalog number: LTD011
    Release date: November 25, 2014
    Format: Cassette
    Edition size: 50

Lily Tapes & Discs mainstay The National Park Service returns with his most declarative and expansive work yet – “June/The Seagull” picks up right where NPS’s amazing 2013 album I Was Flying left off and takes us soaring over the canyon through clouds of bells, coasting along on a deceptively simple guitar line that opens up into a full-band clatter before letting us back down. From this point on it’s all about the slow landing and the afterglow. Helping us down on the reverse side is Lung Cycles’s “Country Poem (take 2)”, a more meditative and restrained take on the tape collage sound that defined Squanto’s Basement Tropic. Zoomed in and zoned out, like whiplash in slow motion. An acid-dipped walk along the river at sunset.

  • ylayali / lung cycles

    Catalog number: LTD014
    Release date: June 16, 2015
    Format: Cassette
    Edition size: 50

Continuing our recent series of split releases, LTD013 brings together ylayali – solo project of Francis Lyons, also known for his work with free cake for every creature and grady stiles – and Lung cycles, each presenting a side of music that doesn’t sound written or recorded as much as spilled out and gathered back up quickly, out of necessity and through broken and hurried means. Busy and tired but still distracted, holding on to memories like crumpled drawings pulled from the trash.

  • Ocean Charter of Values / Lung cycles

    Catalog number: LTD015
    Release date: August 11, 2015
    Format: Cassette
    Edition size: 50

Ocean Charter of Values is Nicholas Laugher, also known for his work with Montreal psych-rock outfit Year of Glad and Haligonian songwriter David R. Elliott. OCOV’s tape debut is a dense suite of sprawling field ambience and shapeshifting musings on drinking red wine in fish shacks on the Nova Scotia shore, sneaking a smoke under the full moon, and being held up under blurring lights. Recorded in an abandoned satellite station in Halifax and then manipulated into their present form, these are songs that struggle to break free from their magnetic confines and fill the room. Flip the tape and Lung Cycles brings us in a little closer with a side of humid and stifling meditations for keyboard and tape recorded in churches, bagel shops, subway platforms, and bedrooms. It’s too hot to move, just slam the windows open and sweat it out.

  • Cla-ras / Lung cycles

    Catalog number: LTD025
    Release date: January 3, 2018
    Format: Cassette
    Edition size: 50

The seventh entry in our long-running series of split releases brings the tape debut of Cla-ras, a new musical project based in Providence, Rhode Island. “I Could Taste Iodine in the Drinking Water” is a subtle but impactful introduction, a transportive work of deceptively rich guitar playing that slowly fills the room like steam off a pot of broth, with spoken word adapted from Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley emerging from the haze. Opposite Cla-ras’s performance is the first new transmission from Lung cycles since 2015, a loose constellation of slow meditations on quick ideas, left alone to simmer while we wait for the room to heat up.

  • naps / lung cycles

    Catalog number: LTD026
    Release date: April 20, 2018
    Format: Cassette
    Edition size: 75

With this release we bring the latest dispatch from stalwart LTD contributor naps, continuing a recent string of brilliant releases on labels like Patient Sounds and Tandem Tapes. It’s a continued development of the warm drones and soothing field recordings that have defined naps’ sound, but with a poignant clarity that was only hinted at before now cracked wide open. Lung cycles’ response, an improvised pipe organ performance to an empty cathedral recorded live to tape, plunges us back into the murk. Together, both sides speed across the rust belt toward the sunset, but it’s not getting any closer. Everything’s the same, no matter how much it changes. The world’s not ending, it’s already over.
